How is Euthanasia Performed?
We use a gentle and stress-free approach to euthanasia. The process begins with administering a sedative and pain medication to your pet. Depending on your pet's condition, this sedative is given either under the skin or into the muscle, similar to a vaccine. This step ensures your pet becomes very relaxed and enters a deep sleep.
Once your pet is deeply relaxed, the final medication is administered into a vein. This medication acts as an overdose of anesthetic, causing your pet to pass peacefully within a few minutes without any pain or discomfort.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
There is no definitive answer. It depends on your pet's condition, quality of life, and your family's beliefs, values, and resources. Our Quality of Life Consultations can help you navigate this difficult process.
-
In-home euthanasia offers privacy and comfort for both you and your pet. It removes travel stress and allows your entire family to be together for your pet's peaceful passing.
-
We use a gentle and peaceful approach. Your pet will first receive a sedative to induce relaxation and deep sleep. This injection is similar to how a vaccine is given, and most pets do not notice. Once your pet is in a deep sleep, the final medication is administered into a vein. Your pet's heart will stop within a few minutes, ensuring no pain or discomfort.
-
The decision to include loved ones is personal. Having family and friends present can provide support and an opportunity to say goodbye. Depending on their age and personality, including children can help them process the loss of their dear friend. Pets also grieve, so their presence can be comforting if it is not too disruptive. If you prefer not to have other pets present during the process, allowing them to see your pet's body afterward can sometimes provide closure.
-
We strive to ensure a pain-free and anxiety-free experience. Dr. Laura is a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (CPEV) and uses her additional training to ensure your pet feels no pain or discomfort during the process.
We understand this is a challenging and overwhelming time. We are committed to helping you through end-of-life decision-making, providing comfort, and relieving pain for your pets to ensure the most peaceful end-of-life experience possible.
